As humans in the world today, it's common to have muscle imbalances that can limit our mobility and lead to unnecessary pain. For many, our job requires us to sit for long hours or work in awkward positions, For others, our demanding schedule takes precedent over our mental well-being. All of these things have a profound physical effect brought on by our body's physical stress response. It's well-demonstrated that a sedentary high-stress life leaves us susceptible to preventable conditions like diabetes or heart disease and can make us chronically tired or lacking energy to enjoy life.
Building strength and increasing range of motion (ROM) through resistance training and mobility exercises is the single best way of preserving your physical condition and enhancing your quality of life as you age. The benefits don't discriminate between age groups. Folks in their 70s and beyond can safely do strength training with a compentent trainer. Moreover, strength training supports healthy adaptations that aerobics alone cannot achieve. As your personal trainer, my aim is to help you implement practical changes through a structured approach. Our bodies thrive most when presented with volatility because it challenges us to elevate our capabilities over time.
With this in mind, training methods can and should evolve along with you.
New clients meet the trainer for an in-person consultation session. At the initial consultation, we will review your exercise history, establish your fitness aims, and how to address potential obstacles in your journey. We will also discuss any relevant medical history or other areas of concern you may have. Then we will cover your general eating habits and determine if this area can be optimized to support your goals. From there, we can establish the best route to help you achieve your fitness goals.
If you don't have a physical or sports background, this doesn't mean you can't learn to do strength training! Likewise, if you are unsure of exactly what your fitness goals are, we can explore the best options together during the workout phase of our consultation.
We will go through some basic exercises such as a squat and make some movement assessments. You'll break a small sweat but don’t worry, I got you! After the workout, we review the results together in order to determine the best course of action going forward. I work diligently alongside my clients to ensure they achieve the best possible results and outcomes!
Note: Please make me aware if you have any medical conditions that may require the approval of a healthcare professional prior to beginning personal training.
Training routines are normally split into "blocks" lasting 4-8 weeks. During each phase of training we manipulate variables such as volume, weight, and exercises performed. After establishing a strong foundation of compound lifts, we use this knowledge to build a movement pattern that suits your goals and respects the unique nature of your body. The idea is to build upon our knowledge as we adapt our training methods, creating clients that can eventually design their own intuitive and well-informed workout routines. I am not a gatekeeper and do not wish to create a divide between my clients and the self-efficacy necessary for you to thrive. My objective is to provide you with the guidance and tools you need to change your relationship with fitness and strength training forever!
In order for humans like you and I to effectively grow, it requires time and compassion, but also honesty and mental fortitude. The human body has the ability to make amazing adaptations when met with physical challenges and unexpected struggles can always arise. As circumstances change, so will our approach. I will tailor the program to your needs.
